Prohibition – a New Upscale Lounge Opening

Monday, November 30th, 2009

Prohibition will open on December 3rd at 56 East Andrews Drive in Andrews Square. This upscale Buckhead lounge has the feel of a 1920s underground speakeasy and no sign makes it more discreet. While it is not a members-only club, guests can only enter by securing a secret phone number and dialing it into an original antique London phone booth securing access though a secret entry way.

“We like to call our drinks prescriptions carefully compounded as our mixologists studied hundreds of lost cocktails, techniques, and the true art of an old style classic bartending that you just can’t find anywhere else in the South, ” says Master Mixologist Steve De Haan. “Using 300 lb blocks of hand chipped ice, only fresh squeezed juices, garnishes cut to order and the finest liquors available, our upscale, craft cocktails are without compare for quality and rarity of ingredients.”

The interior design keeps with the overall theme. With sconces from the 20s, the lighting is warm and subdued. The honey-onyx bar top and hand-painted ceiling complement the trimmed out oak paneling throughout the establishment. Guests will be able to cozy up in rich leather sofas by the fireplace and taste from the a special menu complete with desserts. Patrons can also enjoy a cigar from the house humidor with over 30 of the finest and rarest cigars found anywhere, such as OpusX, Padron 80th Anniversary and Davidoff.

Doc Chey’s Takes Stella’s Place

Monday, November 30th, 2009

Grant Park’s Stella Pasta Pizza and Spirits will close its doors to the public on December 30, 2009 at 10 p.m. This news comes with an exciting twist: just in time for Chinese New Year, the same space will reopen as a Doc Chey’s Noodle House in February 2010.

HomeGrown Restaurant Concepts is taking care of their employees during the transition; the same people that ran Stella will have the opportunity to become a part of Doc Chey’s Grant Park family. Owner Rich Chey feels optimistic about the transformation of the space and the opening of Doc Chey’s. According to Chey, “The restaurant will continue to operate on the same principle of serving made-from-scratch food at affordable prices and fostering good karma by playing a proactive role in the neighborhood.”

Since opening in 2008, Stella has raised over $20,000 for local organizations including Oakland Cemetery, Zoo Atlanta, Cabbagetown tornado victims, Grant Park fire station 10, John Henderson reward fund, Neighborhood Charter School and many others.  Doc Chey’s Grant Park will continue this good karma mission throughout the neighborhood by giving back and getting involved.
