McKerrow and Ted’s Adopt Green Policy on Straws

Wednesday, January 30th, 2013

George McKerrow, co-founder and CEO of Ted’s Montana Grill, recently signed the ‘Be Straw Free’ pledge to adopt an offer-first policy on drinking straw usage in restaurants. The pledge is part of the restaurant company’s support of 11-year-old Milo Cress, who created the non-profit to help educate the public about the environmental impact of plastic disposable straws. Ted’s Montana Grill helped bring back paper drinking straws to the industry to address this very issue and has been using them in place of plastic since the restaurant company’s founding in 2002.

Cress, of Longmont, Colo., started the Be Straw Free campaign to reduce the waste that results from the estimated 500 millionplastic straws used in the U.S. each day. Founded in February 2011, the campaign encourages restaurants and other businesses around the country to adopt an offer-first policy, which will significantly reduce the amount of plastic straws used daily by consumers in restaurants.

Cress and the Be Straw Free movement have been lauded by the National Restaurant Association as well as other industry programs, and featured in media outlets such as CNN. For more information, visit Be Straw Free.
