Biltong Bar – Buckhead Announces Matt Weinstein as Executive Chef

True Story Brands, the South African hospitality group behind establishments such as Biltong Bar, has announced Matt Weinstein as executive chef of the concept’s second location. Slated to open Fall 2018 in The Shops Buckhead Atlanta, Biltong Bar is the first concept of its kind in the world, providing a unique dining experience featuring organic, house-cured beef jerky, South African street fare, and an elevated beverage program.

As an industry veteran, Weinstein brings more than 15 years of experience to his role as executive chef at Biltong Bar – Buckhead. Most recently, Weinstein served as executive chef of Woodfire Grill before joining Concentrics Restaurants as executive chef of ONE Midtown Kitchen.

“The decision to join the team was not only exhilarating but an easy one for me”, says Weinstein. “I love working with international fare and South African fare encompasses a mix of several cuisines including Indian, French and Malaysian. The menu will be brought to life with the use of as many locally sourced products as possible, primarily cooking with each season and providing patrons a taste of South Africa in the South.”

Weinstein plans to build upon Biltong Bar’s signature “beef jerky and booze” concept by introducing several menus with added offerings, in addition to featuring the existing brand’s favorites found at the restaurant’s original Ponce City Market location. This will include the brand’s namesake, biltong, which is all-natural dry, aged beef jerky. The restaurant will also have expanded hours, opening for lunch through late night, with new selections including a Flat Top Burger, Gatsby Dip sandwich, Tandoori Chicken Wings and Smoked Peri-Peri Trout Dip.

Beverage Director Sean Gleason will head up the restaurant’s hand-crafted cocktail program. Gleason will be providing contemporary craft cocktail concoctions to the new location, utilizing seasonal ingredients and exceptional spirits to enhance the program.

The 6,500 square-foot restaurant will take shape through the aesthetic inspiration of Anthony’s wife and interior designer, Kelly Wolf-Anthony of Wolf Design Group. The space will feature a 40-seat bar which extends the entirety of the restaurant, a robust dining room characterized by dark woods and leather accents as well as a lounge for guests to enjoy interactive games while dining.
