Chef Jared Hucks Opens the Alden in Chamblee

This spring, chef Jared Hucks is returning to his roots by opening The Alden in Chamblee’s Parkview on Peachtree mixed-use development. After working in fine dining restaurants for more than 20 years, and founding local supper club Dogwood Table, Hucks is establishing a casual restaurant with an emphasis on fine food. The Alden will serve healthy, seasonal American cuisine that involves a modern twist on Southern classics and other culturally influenced mainstays.

Alden, which means “old friend” in Old English and is also the chef’s middle name, and is a nod to the convivial atmosphere he’s creating with the help of architect Andrew Amor. Hucks graduated from the French Culinary Institute in New York (now known as the International Culinary Center), and his career has included roles at Vail Cascade Resort & Spa in Vail, Colorado; Guillaume at Bennelong at the Sydney Opera House in Australia; Baan Rim Pa Restaurant Group in Phuket, Thailand; Arzak in San Sebastian, Spain; Noma in Copenhagen, Denmark; and Bacchanalia in Atlanta.

The Alden’s fa├žade is reminiscent of old English architecture and is comprised of natural materials like limestone found nearby in Georgia. The intimate 2,300-square-foot space features 74 seats total, including the main dining room, bar, chef’s counter and outdoor patio. A mezzanine level makes use of the restaurant’s 20-foot ceilings to allow for dry storage and an employee area that contributes to a positive work culture for the restaurant team.

The open kitchen, designed by Larry Aber of Atlanta Fixture & Sales Co., serves as the focal point of the sleek space and is surrounded by a color palette of earth tones and earth elements. Walnut tabletops and bar tops complement the sand- and clay-colored upholstery and polished concrete floors. Well-known glass blower Rob Stern, who is also Hucks’ brother, has created lighting and art installations for the restaurant’s interior.
