Southern Proper Hospitality (SPH) announced that the Atlanta-based restaurant group has acquired The Monte Vista Hotel, located just outside of Asheville in Black Mountain, North Carolina. Together with a few local partners, and Black Mountain resident Mike Boles serving as managing partner, they are turning the historic property into MV Boutique Hotel and transforming the hotel’s dining room into a second location of Milton’s Cuisine & Cocktails.
SPH, Boles and the local Black Mountain partners were attracted to The Monte Vista Hotel’s history, the potential of the property and the locals’ fondness for the hotel. Asheville’s growth and Black Mountain’s ideal location to serve both locals and visitors sealed the deal.
The first order of business is bringing SPH’s Milton’s Cuisine & Cocktails restaurant to the North Carolina hotel. As part of the remodeled lobby and dining area, Milton’s will offer a menu of regionally inspired comfort food from executive chef Montae Hauser that will closely resemble the Atlanta location’s offerings. Executive Chef and Milton’s brand ambassador Derek Dollar’s seed-to-table vision will continue at MV Boutique Hotel with a garden on the property to supply the restaurant with produce and offer additional outdoor seating.
The historical integrity of the original structure, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is celebrating its centennial anniversary in 2019, will be maintained and honored with future improvements planned for both the property and the facility itself. One of those improvements will include a private speakeasy, called Boxcar.
