Nationally acclaimed Chef Demetrius Brown has opened a brick-and-mortar location of his popular Heritage Supper Club in Atlanta’s Summerhill neighborhood. Along with business partner Brandon Blanchard, Brown hopes to evolve the concept within Atlanta’s culinary fabric, exploring the vibrant flavors and culinary traditions of African, Caribbean and Afro-American cuisine. Brown, as executive chef, will guide the restaurant’s à la carte and tasting menus.
Born into a Trinidadian family and raised in Rhode Island and Georgia, Brown launched Heritage Supper Club as a pop-up in 2021. Named “Best Food Pop-Up” by Atlanta Magazine, Heritage Supper Club was hosted at local restaurants and coffee shops after hours and specialized in the cuisine of the African diaspora with creative dish ideas rooted in Brown’s memories of cooking alongside his great-grandmother.
The supper club built its reputation on refined, multi-course tasting menus, and the forthcoming location will offer seasonal tasting menus at dinner with an à la carte menu served in the restaurant’s lounge. Each dish draws a connection to Brown’s story or his love for a particular region in the Caribbean. For example, “Carmen’s Cucumbers” recalls a childhood memory of sitting on his aunt’s porch eating cucumbers from her garden, and the “Hispaniola Burger” references Brown’s love for Haiti.
Located in the city’s historic Summerhill neighborhood south of downtown, Heritage will build on the community’s cultural legacy through Brown’s culinary perspective, aiming to continue to introduce more guests to the untold stories and flavors of marginalized food traditions, reimagined through both modern and classic techniques. On opening night September 10, the restaurant donated all proceeds to support Hope for Haiti and Georgia Organics.
“Heritage will be more than a restaurant; it will be a place where connections near and far are cultivated,” says Brown. “We want to dispel the notion that the food of the African Diaspora is unfamiliar. The purpose of Heritage is to be an incubator for the revolution of the culinary industry far and wide by bringing more visibility to flavors found in African and Caribbean cuisine.”
Bringing over three decades of experience in the restaurant industry, Brown’s business partner Blanchard worked with Brown for years before they partnered together to acquire the Inman Park café and bistro Bread & Butterfly in 2023 and began building their hospitality group Bellevue Hospitality. Blanchard previously ran his consulting practice, Blanchard Walsh Hospitality Consulting, and he continues to focus on best-in-class hospitality through cultural sustainability and integrity, quality people, product and operational excellence.
Bread & Butterfly was named to The New York Times’ Best Restaurants in America list in 2024 and The 25 Best Restaurants in Atlanta Right Now list in 2024, 2025 and 2026. Brown is also a Food Network “Chopped Next Gen” and “Cutthroat Kitchen” finalist and winner of Food Network’s “Beat Bobby Flay.”
Keyatta Mincey, an award-winning beverage professional, consultant and educator, developed the restaurant’s beverage program. A Wine Enthusiast Future 40 honoree and Tales of the Cocktail Catalyst honoree, Mincey has spent her career creating beverage experiences rooted in thoughtful storytelling and connection. Developed to bring together cocktails, wine, spirits and sophisticated non-alcoholic botanicals with an emphasis on the African diaspora that’s both ingredient-driven and elegant, the beverage program echoes the restaurant’s goal to represent Heritage through flavor, storytelling, hospitality, execution and connection to the African diaspora and American South. When selecting ingredients and products for the beverage program, Mincey placed emphasis on highlighting Black-owned, BIPOC-owned, women-owned, local and sustainable producers with a meaningful connection to the stories Heritage wants to tell.
The Heritage space will balance earthy tones and greenery with a thoughtful mix of textures, including Moroccan clay walls, and a vast collection of curated artwork. The lounge will feature relaxed, walk-in seating for fourteen and a full bar offering an à la carte menu. Dinner service in the dining room will feature seating for 34 guests, framed by an open kitchen and chef’s counter. In the future, there are plans to install a rooftop patio to house Heritage Garden as well as a private event space.
