Owner Joe McCarthy announced the arrival of his new restaurant, WaterHaven, in Technology Square in Midtown Atlanta, opening on May 12 in the former GLOBE space.
WaterHaven’s sustainable practices are evident in both the front and back of house, including the use of local, sustainable ingredients in the kitchen; an intensive recycling program throughout the restaurant; use of biodegradable disposables for takeout; and participation in Sysco’s extensive program for green products.
Executive Chef Chris Lee, a Memphis Culinary Academy graduate who has worked under such culinary heavy hitters as Master Chef Jose Gutierrez, Wolfgang Puck and Gary Danko, will be heading up the kitchen at WaterHaven. Prior to his arrival, Lee held executive chef positions at The Real Chow-Baby and Hi Life Kitchen & Cocktails and consulted on the menus at Sampan and Café Circa, all in Atlanta.
At WaterHaven, Lee will be serving contemporary American fare that highlights local farms and purveyors. His menu features seasonal dishes that display the restaurant’s farm-to-table philosophy. His menu includes items such as Painted Hills hanger steak with house cut fries and crispy caramelized Vidalia onions; fresh Georgia trout wrapped in applewood smoked bacon; and fresh herb pasta layered with mushrooms, onions and hand dipped ricotta in brown butter. An additional lite fare menu will be offered throughout the day, and a quick to-go lunch option will be available on weekdays. Lunch prices range from $8 to $14, while dinner prices range from $14 to the mid $20s. Small plates are $6 to $12, and desserts are $2 to $5.
WaterHaven’s wine list will offer 50 to 75 different selections by the bottle and 10 wines by the glass. The list focuses on varietals from California, South America and Australia.  Bottle prices will range from $25 to $75, while all wines by the glass will be priced under $10.
For WaterHaven’s interior design, McCarthy collaborated with architect Marc Moscript. Guests will now enter the restaurant on the side of the building through the Centergy courtyard.
