Mellow Mushroom announced that its Decatur location, which is currently closed for renovations, will reopen this fall as a flagship store, with a new exterior and interior design. New features will include murals from local artist Ben Janik, refreshed bar and patio areas and a new dedicated to-go window.
Mellow Mushroom, which was founded in Atlanta, has been serving its stone-baked pizza since 1974 and now operates 160 locations across 16 states. Most locations are locally-owned and operated, allowing them to maintain a local flare while holding true to Mellow Mushroom’s core values and trademark trippy style.
However, the Decatur store, originally opened in 2016, will reopen its doors on W. Ponce de Leon Ave. this fall as a company-owned store. Visitors to the Decatur location can expect exclusive menu offerings, as the brand plans to test new items at this location before they are considered for a nationwide launch. Mellow Mushroon operates several company-owned stores, including the Grant Park location, but the Decatur store will become their flagship full-service location, given its proximity to the brand’s Atlanta headquarters.

In addition to hand-tossed, stone-baked pizzas, Mellow Mushroom also serves calzones, hoagies, salads and sweets, as well as gluten-free and vegan options. Behind the bar, the stores serve specialty cocktails and mocktails, wines and a selection of local beers.
